UCD Symphony Orchestra

University Orchestra
Dublin
School of Music, Newman Building, UCD, Belfield
Ireland

  • The UCD Symphony Orchestra is the flagship instrumental ensemble of University College Dublin, Ireland’s largest university with a student population of over 33,000. It was founded in 2002 and is run from the UCD School of Music, in which it is offered as a taught module. It currently has around 85 members, the majority of whom are undergraduate students from a variety of academic backgrounds. The orchestra typically performs around 3/4 concerts each year, including one at the National Concert Hall, Dublin’s premier classical music venue. The orchestra aims to travel for performances in Europe every other year, having been hosted in the past in Belgium, France, Germany, Sweden and the UK. Its core repertoire is from the classical symphonic canon, but it has also presented programmes of popular music in collaboration with live bands and movie scores.
Around twenty scholarships are awarded based on audition each year.

  • We would be happy to share results through our mailing list database, social media channels and on our website. We can feature information about the project in our upcoming concert programmes.
